Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Receives GCL Delegation On Proposed Strategic Investment
KUCHING: Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan received a courtesy call from a delegation comprising representatives of GCL Group, GCL Energy Technology and Global Telecom Group, here on Tuesday, in connection with the company’s strategic investment interest in Sarawak.
According to a statement, the engagement was facilitated by InvestSarawak as part of the state’s continued efforts to attract high-impact investments and strengthen Sarawak’s position in future-oriented industries.
“The engagement centred generally on investment interests relating to power generation and the inclusion of artificial intelligence in next-generation industrial and digital infrastructure.
“The visit marks a continuation of ongoing engagements between Sarawak and GCL, following the Deputy Premier’s meeting with GCL in Shanghai, China last year, as well as a follow-up visit by GCL to Kuching in mid-January this year,” the statement said.
For the record, GCL Group is a major Chinese green and low-carbon technology group founded in 1990, with business interests spanning new energy, clean energy, renewable energy, advanced materials and integrated energy-related applications.
The group oversees multiple listed affiliates in China and Hong Kong, including GCL Energy Technology, which is listed in Shenzhen under stock code 002015.SZ.
“GCL Energy Technology is one of the group’s core energy platforms, with activities in clean power generation, integrated energy services, energy storage, virtual power plants and carbon management.
“Global Telecom Group, which is already active in Sarawak, brings complementary capabilities in digital infrastructure, including data centres, cloud solutions and connectivity services, supporting broader interest in AI-enabled infrastructure development in the state,” the statement added.
Meanwhile, Sarawak remains committed to facilitating quality investments that are aligned with the state’s long-term economic aspirations, particularly those that support industrial transformation, digital innovation, energy transition and sustainable growth.
