Padawan Road Upgrade Project Phase 1 Shows Good Progress
SERIAN: The Jalan Padawan Phase 1 upgrade project continues to show positive progress, recording a physical completion of 54.18 per cent as of 25 March, exceeding the original schedule by 0.93 per cent.
Sarawak Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development Datuk Ir. Aidel Lariwoo said the achievement demonstrates that the project implementation is highly satisfactory and progressing smoothly according to plan.
“Overall, the project’s progress is very good, slightly ahead of schedule and it is expected to be completed by February next year although the contractor is committed to finishing earlier,” he made the remark during a site visit to the project on Tuesday.
However, he said the project is now being continued by a new contractor to complete the remaining delayed works.
According to him, the project previously faced contract termination due to several issues including land acquisition and the presence of structures within the road reserve.
However, he said the project is now being continued by a new contractor to complete the remaining delayed works.
The Jalan Padawan Phase 1 upgrade project entails the construction of a 14.9-kilometre stretch from Simpang Tapah to Pekan Teng Bukap in accordance with R3 road specifications.
The initiative seeks to upgrade the existing alignment which previously exhibited unsatisfactory horizontal and vertical geometry while improving safety, comfort and the efficiency of travel for road users.
For Phase 2, the project involves a 15-kilometre stretch from Pekan Teng Bukap to Kampung Anah Rais.
The design for the phase has been finalised with implementation scheduled to proceed under the 13th Malaysia Plan (RMK-13) for 2026–2030. -UKASnews
