Over RM11.6 Million In Development Projects For Kampung Bruit
BRUIT: A variety of development projects worth over RM11.6 million are currently being planned and implemented in Kampung Bruit for the benefit of the local community.
Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs, Information and UKAS) Datuk Abdullah Saidol explained that these planned and ongoing developments result from the government’s continuous efforts to improve the quality of life for citizens, especially for island and rural communities.
According to the Semop assemblyman, one of the key projects is the proposed rehabilitation of drainage and irrigation infrastructure for the Tg. Sirik Scheme (Block C) in Bruit, Bruit Island.
Costing RM10.5 million, this Projek Rakyat is currently awaiting approval.
“Additionally, a RM390,000 project to upgrade the roads in Kampung Sesco No.2 is currently underway and is expected to be completed in the near future,” he said during the 2026 Aidilfitri Reception for the N.42 Semop state constituency and P.206 Tanjung Manis parliamentary seat on Tuesday.
He also noted that the repair work on the steel bridge at the village’s main entrance, costing RM458,640 is currently underway, while a RM350,000 project to upgrade the main access road to Kampung Bruit has already reached the site visit phase.
“All these projects are vital because the primary challenges facing our area are accessibility and connectivity. Some villages are traversed by rivers and require sturdy bridges and well-maintained roads for the convenience of the residents,” he explained.
At the same time, Datuk Abdullah took the opportunity to offer his congratulations to students who have achieved academic success.
“I would like to congratulate the students who achieved 5As or more. For those successfully moving on to university, we are providing a RM1,200 assistance initiative, while RM500 is being awarded to students with 5As or more as an incentive,” he said.
He added that these efforts are vital to ensure that the younger generation in the Semop constituency is continuously motivated to succeed in their education.
Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament for Tanjung Manis, Dato Ir Yusuf Wahab, expressed his support for the ongoing development efforts in the area, stressing his commitment to ensuring that the needs of the people remain a priority.
He described the projects as more than just infrastructure improvements, noting that they also unlock economic potential, particularly within the fishing and food supply sectors of the island region.
The Aidilfitri celebration also served as a platform to strengthen ties between leaders and the community.
To conclude the event, schoolchildren in attendance were presented with duit raya (festive envelopes) as a token of appreciation, adding to the joy of the Aidilfitri celebrations.
With projects totalling RM11,698,640 the residents of Kamping Bruit now have high hopes that these plans will be fully brought to fruition for the wellbeing of the whole community. -UKASnews
