Sarawak Energy Marathon 2026 Attracts Participants Across All Levels
KUCHING: The Sarawak Energy Marathon 2026 is set to take place on 9 August and feature a refreshed concept and increased cash prizes to attract participants of varying experience levels.
Sarawak Minister of Utility and Telecommunication Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi said the rebranding from the annual Sarawak Energy Isthmus Run to Sarawak Energy Marathon aims to give a new identity to the long-standing event.
“The Sarawak Energy Marathon was established by Sarawak Energy Berhad. Along with the rebranding, we have also increased the cash prizes for participants.
“The total prize purse for all categories is RM201,500 up from RM185,000 last year. In the Full Marathon Open category, both the men’s and women’s winners will each receive a top prize of RM15,000,” he said at a press conference on Wednesday.
Held in conjunction with Kuching City Day, this year’s event features four categories: the 42km full marathon, 21km half marathon, 10km competitive run, and 5km fun run.
To date, nearly 500 participants have registered for the full marathon category with its flag-off scheduled for 1am from Sarawak Energy Menara, passing through Kuching’s iconic landmarks including the Darul Hana Bridge, the Sarawak Legislative Assembly Building, Borneo Cultures Museum, the Kuching cat statue, and Kuching Waterfront.
Participants will also run past key locations such as the Juma’ani Bridge and Satria Pertiwi Complex, offering a unique experience while showcasing the beauty of the city.
The event is organised in collaboration with Grit Management, with all routes certified by the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS), ensuring international standards are met.
The final registration date is 30 June 2026.
