Water Master Plan Boosts Supply Transformation In Sri Aman
SRI AMAN: The Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) Government continues to strengthen its commitment to ensuring clean and treated water supply through the implementation of various strategic projects in the Sri Aman Division.
Minister for Utility and Telecommunication Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi said the efforts are being carried out through the Sarawak Water Supply Master Plan, the Sarawak Water Grid System, as well as the Non-Revenue Water (NRW) Reduction Programme, all fully funded by the Sarawak Government.
He explained that the implementation of these projects is overseen by the Ministry of Utility and Telecommunication Sarawak through its implementing agencies, namely the Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) and Sarawak Water.
“For the Sri Aman Division, a new Water Treatment Plant with a capacity of 75 million litres per day (MLD) is currently under construction in Engkilili and is expected to significantly enhance clean water supply capacity upon completion.
“The plant will complement the existing Bayai Water Treatment Plant, which currently supplies approximately 53 MLD to Sri Aman and surrounding areas,” he said in a recent post on his official Facebook page.
At the same time, he noted that several small-scale water treatment plants are also in operation to support local water supply needs, including Lingga (1.65 MLD), Melugu (0.65 MLD), Skrang (0.65 MLD), Engkilili (1.30 MLD), Pantu (2.0 MLD), Seduku (2.0 MLD), Stumbin (0.65 MLD), Lubok Antu (15.0 MLD) as well as LDS Lubok Antu (2.20 MLD).
In addition, he said the implementation of the Sri Aman Regional Water Supply System, which connects the Engkilili and Bayai Water Treatment Plants, has been approved as part of the state’s water grid development.
Through this system, the water pipeline network will be expanded in phases, covering key routes from Engkilili to Bayai, and subsequently to Pantu and Lingga, to ensure a more stable and comprehensive distribution of water supply.
To further enhance system efficiency, JBALB is also actively carrying out pipe replacement and upgrading works to reduce NRW levels, thereby minimising water wastage. -UKASnews
