18 Participants Vie For Gedong District Level Quran Recitation Competition
GEDONG: A total of 18 participants, comprising 11 qari and seven qariah took part in the Gedong District Level Quran Recitation Competition 1447H/2026M held at Masjid Al-Kawthar on Tuesday.
The one-day event, themed “A Progressive and Prosperous Ummah, Knowledgeable Individuals Upholding Environmental Sustainability” emphasised the importance of nurturing a knowledgeable, harmonious and environmentally conscious society.
Gedong District Officer Jamain Wahab in his speech, said the competition not only serves as a platform to discover local qari and qariah talents but also to reinforce the spirit of love for the Quran among the Muslim community in the district.
He stated that the programme also constitutes the first round involving five districts under the Samarahan Division administration.
“I would like to congratulate all participants for their courage in presenting their Quran recitations and express my appreciation to all parties involved in making this event a success,” he said.
He further stated that the programme which was originally planned to be conducted over two days was revised to a one-day event due to certain reasons but was nevertheless successfully implemented.
In the meantime, he expressed hope that representatives from Gedong District will successfully advance to the divisional level which is scheduled to take place in Simunjan District from 6 to 7 May.
Jamain also reminded that Quran recitation is not merely a competition of voice and tarannum but more importantly about understanding and appreciating the contents of the holy scripture.
He further encouraged the public to maintain a close connection with the Quran throughout the year by spending at least 15 to 30 minutes daily on recitation even amid busy daily routines.
