Infrastructure Development Drives Rural Transformation
SIBURAN: The Sarawak government continues to reinforce its rural development agenda through the implementation of strategic infrastructure projects, as well as an emphasis on future-oriented education to ensure the comprehensive enhancement of the people’s well being.
Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development (MEITD) Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn stated that the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government has demonstrated consistent development progress particularly in enhancing rural road networks.
Among them, he said is the road construction project connecting Teng Bukap to Annah Rais, which is currently at a critical phase with an initial cost of about RM80 million and will proceed to a second phase involving an allocation of approximately RM126 million.
In addition, the construction of the road from Jalan Link Road to Kehom with an estimated cost of RM6 million to RM9 million is expected to further enhance connectivity for local residents.
“Every development project requires thorough planning and must undergo established procedures including tender processes and clear justification to ensure its effective implementation,” he said when speaking at the Muhibbah Night organised by the Kampung Peraya JKKK at Dewan Serbaguna Tapah here on Saturday.
In further comments, he acknowledged that several project delays under the Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA) were due to manpower constraints within implementing agencies such as the Public Works Department of Malaysia and local authorities.
Among the projects currently being implemented is the upgrading of the Kampung Stabut–Kampung Peraya road, valued at RM5 million which is now at the tender stage.
In other developments, Dato Sri Roland who also serves as the Tarat Assemblyman encouraged the Kampung Peraya community and surrounding areas to explore ecotourism as a new source of income, taking examples from other villages that have successfully generated income through such initiatives.
