KUCHING: The Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR) Complex has become a symbol of unity, peace and progress in Sarawak, which is based on the diversity of religions in the state.
Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said that the modern architecture of the UNIFOR Complex with the 'One Wrap' concept and harmonious internal layout symbolises the unity of Sarawak's multi-racial and multi-religious community through the repeating star motif as a symbol of diversity.
"The UNIFOR Complex will function as a dynamic platform where various houses of worship can gather, interact and foster dialogue in strengthening understanding and reinforcing respectful relations between the multi-racial community," he said.
He said this when speaking at the Opening Ceremony of the UNIFOR Complex officiated by Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg at Jalan Ong Tiang Swee, here, on Sunday.
Commenting on the complex, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah said that the 10-storey complex worth RM75.663 million was developed according to Green Building Index (GBI) standards in line with Sarawak's environmental sustainability agenda.
According to him, the complex also houses a nine-storey office tower, executive space, roof garden, a banquet hall with a capacity of 1,000 people, nine units of commercial space and 286 parking spaces including electric vehicle (EV) charging facilities.
He added that the facilities on the 9th floor consisting of two function rooms and the rooftop garden on the 10th floor are provided for free use by various houses of worship.
Meanwhile, the Minister-In-Charge of UNIFOR called on the people of Sarawak to continue to maintain the common value of peace in line with efforts to move forward in this increasingly complex world.
