32 Recipients Receive RM505,260 In MRP Funding, Strengthening Community Development In Kemena
BINTULU: A total of 32 recipients in the Kemena Legislative Assembly (DUN) constituency received allocations under the Minor Rural Project (MRP) fund amounting to RM505,260, further reinforcing local community development.
The allocations were presented by the Minister of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development, Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom, at a ceremony held at the Bintulu Division Agriculture Department Office on Monday.
According to him, the amount represents the first phase of a total application of RM1.9 million, which will be disbursed in stages to ensure that more communities benefit.
“This disbursement marks the beginning of our ongoing efforts to assist the people at the grassroots level. The remaining allocation will be channelled in subsequent phases,” he said.
The MRP recipients comprise Village Development and Security Committees (JKKK) of longhouses, as well as local clubs and associations, in support of various community-based activities.
Dato Sri Dr Stephen, who is also the Kemena Assemblyman, expressed hope that all recipients would utilise the funds optimally to enhance the well-being and development of their respective areas.
Meanwhile, he also reminded the public to remain vigilant in facing global economic challenges, including rising fuel prices and essential goods, which may affect the cost of living.
He noted that while the impact remains manageable in rural areas, urban residents have begun to feel the pressure, particularly through increases in diesel prices.
In this regard, the public is advised to practise prudent spending and make financial preparations to cope with possible inflation.
In a related development, he stated that Sarawak no longer relies on diesel-powered ferry services following the implementation of toll-free bridge construction projects, which have brought significant benefits to the people.
He added that the completed Sebauh Bridge has become a catalyst for smoother connectivity, while a proposed bridge in Labang is also being pursued to improve road access in the area.
Also present were Bintulu Division Agriculture Officer Jackson Nanta Bernabas Baie and Political Secretary to the Premier of Sarawak, Colin Patan. -UKASnews
