Tellian Bypass Records Encouraging Progress, Expected To Be Completed Earlier Than Scheduled
MUKAH: Construction of the Tellian Bypass Road has now entered a structured implementation phase with physical progress reaching 52.13 per cent to date, reflecting good work progress and slightly ahead of the original schedule.
Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development (MIPD) Datuk Ir. Aidel Lariwoo stated that the smooth execution of works at the site including technical coordination, logistics and construction scheduling has contributed to the project’s current commendable performance.
He stated that the systematic arrangement of works has enabled every phase of construction to be implemented according to plan, thereby creating the opportunity for the project to be completed earlier than the original target set for December this year.
“It reflects the high level of preparedness among all parties involved including the contractor and implementing agencies,” he said during a working visit to inspect the progress of the project on Monday.
Meanwhile, Balingian Assemblyman Abdul Yakub Arbi said the project had been approved since 2017 and went through several coordination phases before full implementation proceeded.
He said the current progress gives confidence that the contractor is capable of completing the project ahead of the target date which is before 9 December 2026.
“The planning also involves the integration of the road network including a proposed additional route that connects village areas to the Coastal Highway through Jalan Kelapa Baru,” he explained.
Meanwhile, Tellian Assemblyman Royston Valentine stated that the project’s consistent progress reflects the commitment of the Sarawak government to ensuring that every aspect of implementation including safety and traffic efficiency is given due attention.
He said the construction of the bypass is a strategic move to reduce reliance on village roads that were previously used by heavy vehicles such as industrial and palm oil lorries.
“With the availability of this alternative route, traffic flow can be managed more effectively, thereby improving the safety of local residents,” he said. -UKASnews
