Infrastructure Development Speeds Up Access, Improves Wellbeing Of Rural Residents
DARO: Infrastructure development involving bridge construction in rural areas is being intensified to improve access and enhance the wellbeing of residents.
Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs, Information and UKAS) Datuk Abdullah Saidol said the effort is being carried out through site visits with implementing agencies to review the progress of ongoing projects, including construction of the Batang Paloh Bridge which is expected to be completed in the near future.
According to the Semop Assemblyman, several small bridges are also being built in the surrounding areas, particularly in the northern part of Pulau Bruit, to strengthen transport links for rural folks.
“The planned construction of new roads will benefit villagers who previously had to use plantation roads to reach the main road,” he said when speaking during a session with residents of Kampung Sedi, here on Tuesday.
Once completed, he said the facilities will not only ease the daily movement of residents, but also reduce dependence on ferry services in the area.
In a related development, he also announced that through a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, financial assistance of RM10,000 each had been channelled to the Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) Sedi and JKKK Rumah Jingga to support local community activities and needs.
He added that continuous infrastructure development will open up more economic opportunities and stimulate growth in rural areas, thereby improving the standard of living of local communities. -UKASnews
