1,528 Receive Sejambak Kasih Gawai Dayak Contributions In Miri
MIRI: A total of 1,528 welfare aid recipients in Miri Division celebrating Gawai Dayak this year received special assistance from the government, with 150 of them honoured in person during the Sejambak Kasih Gawai Dayak Miri 2026 event held at the grounds of Dynasty Hotel, on Thursday.
Minister for Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development (KPWK) Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah said all recipients would receive cash assistance as preparation for the Gawai celebration.
“Out of the total, 150 recipients who were present today received RM100 each, while another 100 recipients will receive the same assistance at a separate ceremony in Bekenu on 25 May.
“The remaining 1,278 recipients will receive the assistance through direct crediting into their respective accounts,” she said at the event.
Overall, the total contribution in conjunction with this year’s Gawai Dayak celebration amounts to RM152,800, reflecting the government’s continued commitment to assisting the underprivileged, particularly in meeting festive preparation costs.
In addition, Dynasty Hotel contributed food hampers worth RM150 each to the 150 recipients in attendance, involving a total corporate contribution of RM22,500.
According to latest statistics, from January to April 2026, the Miri Division Social Welfare Office has disbursed RM9.18 million in monthly assistance to 4,803 recipients under various aid schemes.
Also present were KPWK Deputy Minister Datuk Rosey Yunus, representative of the Miri Division Resident Philip Abeng and Managing Director of Dynasty Hotel Miri Tony Pui. -UKASnews
