RM123 Million Ngungun–Jagau Road Project To Strengthen Interior Access
KANOWIT: The implementation of a road project valued at over RM123 million connecting the Ngungun Resettlement Scheme (SPS) to the Jagau Resettlement Scheme is expected to be a major catalyst in strengthening communication networks and increasing accessibility for residents in the interior.
Ngemah Assemblyman Anyi Jana said that the project is being implemented in phases involving several government agencies to ensure comprehensive and effective execution.
He said this during the Family Day programme for the Community Leaders and Village Chiefs of Ngemah Tengah and Ngemah Hilir at Karangan Nanga Bat on Friday.
According to him, the first phase involving the 4.3-kilometre route from SPS Ngungun to Nanga Bat under the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development (KKDW), valued at over RM37.79 million, was tendered on 25 February 2026.
He added that the implementation of this project is currently in the process of resolving several technical issues, including land payment matters by the Land and Survey Department.
For the 8-kilometre route from Nanga Bat to Nanga Pra under the Upper Rajang Development Agency (URDA), the project valued at RM86 million has reached 86 per cent progress.
In the same development, the next phase from Nanga Pra to Nanga Jagau is expected to be tendered in the third quarter of 2026, subject to the implementation schedule by the Public Works Department (JKR).
Additionally, another 7-kilometre project involving the access road to the Jagau Junction will be tendered in the near future to complete the road network in the area.
As a short-term measure, the state government will take over existing logging roads to be upgraded for the residents' use while waiting for the entire main road project to be fully completed.
The execution of these projects is expected to have a significant impact on local socio-economic development by increasing mobility, facilitating access to basic services, and stimulating economic activities in the interior. -UKASnews
