Bung Bratak Day 2026: A Platform To Promote Bidayuh Culture & Attract Tourists
BAU: The Bung Bratak Day 2026 continues to be an important platform for promoting the cultural heritage of the Bidayuh community and attracting tourists from both home and abroad.
Deputy Minister for Transport (Riverine and Maritime), Datuk Henry Harry Jinep, stated that the event not only elevates local cultural identity but also creates opportunities for the growth of the tourism sector in the area.
“Programmes like this provide an opportunity for outsiders to get to know Bidayuh culture more closely, while simultaneously attracting tourists to this region.
“With the increasing number of visitors each year, it indirectly helps generate the local community's economy through the various activities organised,” he said.’
He said this when met by the media after officiating Bung Bratak Day 2026 at Kampung Tembawang Sauh, Bau on Friday.
According to him, the Bung Bratak area holds significant potential as a nature-based tourism destination, including hiking activities which are gaining popularity among visitors.
In the meantime, he also informed that various exciting events have been planned throughout the festival, including performances by local artistes and cultural programmes.
“We encourage activities such as hiking as it suits the terrain here and, at the same time, helps to preserve the natural environment,” he added.’
He further explained that continuous efforts in promoting Bung Bratak as a tourism destination can further enhance the area's appeal, subsequently positioning it as one of the high-potential tourism locations in Sarawak. -UKASnews
