48 Projects Under 12MP Accelerate Mukah’s Development As New Economic Hub
MUKAH: The implementation of 48 development projects under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) is strengthening the momentum of Mukah’s transformation into a new centre of economic growth in Sarawak.
Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said that of the total, several projects have been completed while the remainder are being carried out in phases.
According to him, infrastructure development remains a priority, with allocations exceeding RM4 billion channelled into road and bridge projects in the Mukah Division.
“This substantial investment is crucial to enhancing connectivity and stimulating economic activities in the area,” he said when delivering a speech on behalf of the Sarawak Premier at the opening ceremony of the Kaul Festival and Keman Kaul 2026 at the Kaul Festival site on Saturday.
Elaborating further, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah noted that Mukah is now in a strategic position to grow as a digital and innovation hub, in line with ongoing infrastructure development and the strengthening of the education sector.
He added that the presence of institutions such as the Sarawak Centre of Technical Excellence (CENTEXS) and Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Sarawak Branch, Mukah Campus, serves as a catalyst in producing a highly skilled workforce.
“The combination of education and technical training supports efforts to position Mukah as a centre grounded in knowledge, technology and innovation,” he added.
Meanwhile, he pointed out that Mukah also holds significant potential in modern agriculture and the blue economy, given its coastal location.
He said that beyond fisheries and aquaculture, the area offers opportunities for the development of maritime and marine sectors, as well as renewable energy such as wave power.
“This opens up new opportunities for more sustainable and competitive economic development in the future,” he said.
The event was also attended by Sarawak Minister for Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah, Deputy Minister of Health and Member of Parliament for Mukah Dato Hanifah Hajar Taib, Deputy Minister for Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment Datuk Len Talif Salleh, Deputy Minister for Infrastructure Development Datuk Ir.
