RM100,000 RTP Project To Upgrade Covered Walkway At SMK Chung Hua Miri Fully Completed
MIRI: The covered walkway facility outside SMK Chung Hua Miri is now more comfortable and safer to use following the successful completion of an upgrading project under the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) allocation worth RM100,000.
The project involved repair works on a waiting walkway measuring approximately 164 metres in length including the upgrading of the floor surface and raising the ground level by between one and two inches to overcome the long-standing issue of water accumulation during rainfall in the area.
Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts and Piasau Assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew said the Sarawak government remains committed to implementing the RTP by focusing on resolving grassroots issues, particularly those involving the needs of the people and educational institutions.
According to him, every allocation channelled must be fully utilised to ensure that infrastructure improvements can be implemented continuously for the comfort and safety of users.
He stated this while conducting a site visit to the project at the school on Wednesday.
The visit was also joined by SUPP Piasau Branch Secretary and Miri City Council member Councillor Kelvin Chia, SUPP Piasau Branch Youth Chief and Miri City Council member Councillor Leslie Lau, SMK Chung Hua Miri principal Lai Jia Ling, the contractor and engineers from the Miri City Council.
The implementation of the project not only fulfils the long-standing needs of the school but also contributes towards improving the daily experience of the school community through the provision of a safer, cleaner and more conducive waiting space.
In addition, the upgrade has also been effective in addressing water ponding issues while further strengthening student safety, especially during the rainy season. -UKASnews
