Germany Aims To Strengthen Its Presence In Sarawak, Exploring Opportunities In Strategic Sectors
KUCHING: A delegation from Germany views Sarawak as a highly promising destination for expanding investments, particularly in strategic sectors that are rapidly growing in the state.
German Ambassador to Malaysia, Her Excellency (H.E.) Silke Riecken-Daerr, said the delegation’s visit to Sarawak was aimed at assessing firsthand the state’s development potential while exploring new avenues of collaboration that could be strengthened with local industry partners.
“We are exploring various sectors in which Sarawak is excelling, including the energy transition, artificial intelligence (AI), semiconductors, and infrastructure projects.
“So, there are many developments currently taking place, and across all the strategic priority areas that are important to Sarawak, we also see considerable German strengths and many German proposals that could help propel Sarawak economically,” she said.
She said this after paying a courtesy call on the Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, at the Satria Pertiwi Complex on Thursday.
Also present were Sarawak Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn, as well as Sarawak Financial Secretary Dato Sri Wan Lizozman Wan Omar.
Meanwhile, Executive Director of the Malaysian-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Hannes Farlock, said the visit provided a clear picture of Sarawak’s increasingly rapid and competitive development momentum.
“The state is also regarded as being highly forward-looking in its efforts to digitalise the economy, including the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) across various sectors.
“I believe there are many similarities between us, especially in areas such as infrastructure and technologies like AI, which are also major priorities in Germany and Europe at present,” he added.
In addition, he said that the development of smart cities, modern infrastructure, as well as the integration of sectors such as semiconductors and hydropower with AI technology, demonstrates a shared direction and significant potential for joint exploration.
He also expressed his intention to return to Sarawak with a larger delegation, including startup companies, while also exploring other areas such as Bintulu to further expand cooperation networks. -UKASnews
