AirBorneo Exploring Wider Connectivity To Enhance Accessibility Across Sarawak
KUCHING: AirBorneo is currently undertaking efforts to enhance its broader network planning to enhance overall accessibility and economy integration across Sarawak.
He said the focus is on strengthening connectivity between main cities and towns in Sarawak, namely Kuching, Sibu, Bintulu and Miri.
“Subject to aircraft availability and commercial viability, these routes are expected to commence from the third quarter of 2027 onwards,” he said when answering a question from Pujut Assemblyman Adam Yii Siew Sang at the 19th Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting on Thursday.
Datuk Dr Jerip added that the Sarawak-owned airline is also evaluating opportunities for direct international routes to Sarawak, including Miri, particularly within ASEAN and nearby regional markets.
Meanwhile, to encourage new international routes, he said incentives are provided to airlines through a collaborative approach involving Malaysia Airports Holdings Berhad (MAHB), Tourism Malaysia and Sarawak Tourism Board (STB).
“These incentives generally include route development support, such as airport charge rebates, joint marketing and promotional assistance, as well as other facilitation measures to encourage airlines to commence and sustain new international routes,” he said. -UKASnews
