‘Kempen Lebihkan Makan Buah-Buahan Tempatan’ Highlights Local Fruits, Strengthens Agro-Food Industry
KUCHING: The third edition of the ‘Kempen Lebihkan Makan Buah-Buahan Tempatan’ was organised at the compound of the Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) Complex as part of ongoing efforts to promote the consumption of local fruits while strengthening the state’s agro-food industry.
The campaign, organised by the Ministry of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development (M-FICORD) in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture Sarawak, was officiated by Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg following the conclusion of the First Meeting of the Fifth Term of the 19th Sarawak DUN on Wednesday.
The programme highlighted the importance of local fruits as nutritious food sources while showcasing their potential in supporting the development of the state’s agro-food sector and generating economic opportunities for local farmers and entrepreneurs.
Among the fruits featured during the campaign were Black Thorn durian, pineapple, salak, guava and bananas, aimed at encouraging the public to appreciate and prioritise locally produced agricultural products in their daily consumption.
The campaign also showcased a variety of heritage and ready-to-eat local food products including Sarawak dry mee kolok, bitter gourd chips, ensalai popiah, freeze-dried pineapple and gula apong.
In addition, the ‘Uji Rasa Nasi’ programme was held to introduce several new rice varieties including hybrid rice from China, while gathering public feedback on the rice products displayed during the event.
Also present were Sarawak Deputy Premiers Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan and Datuk Amar Professor Dr Sim Kui Hian, M-FICORD Minister Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom and Sarawak Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki. -UKASnews
