JDT Retain Malaysia Cup Championship, Overcome KCFC 2-0
KUALA LUMPUR: Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) completed a historic quadruple this season by winning the 2025/2026 Malaysia Cup after overcoming Kuching City FC (KCFC) 2-0 in the final at Bukit Jalil National Stadium here on Saturday night.
The Southern Tigers' first goal was scored by Marcos Guilherme De Almeida in the 80th minute with a fine lob into the right corner of KCFC's goal, beating Haziq Nadzli.
Man of the match Arif Aiman Hanapi extinguished KCFC's remaining hopes by striking the second goal in the 90th minute to cap off a brilliant night for JDT.
It is JDT's sixth Malaysia Cup title since they first won the trophy in 2017. JDT also claimed the Charity Shield, FA Cup and Super League titles this season.
More than 50,000 supporters who packed Bukit Jalil National Stadium were treated to a high-intensity match from the moment the opening whistle was blown.
JDT nearly went ahead early in the 12th minute, but a goal from their prolific striker Bergson Gustavo was disallowed by Qatari referee Mohammed Ahmed Al-Shammari for a foul on a KCFC player.
The Cats' squad, led by Aidil Sharin Sahak, tightened their game and came close to finding the net in the 19th minute, but Joao Pedro's cross failed to be converted by Muhammad Ramadhan Saifullah.
In the 60th minute, KCFC were awarded a penalty after Ramadhan was brought down inside the penalty box. However, Ramadhan failed to convert the opportunity.
Several dangerous moves launched by Jerome Etame and Petrus Shitembi also failed to penetrate JDT's goal, which was firmly guarded by their defence.
Last night's final was also witnessed by Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Amar Fadillah Yusof, as well as several Sarawak and federal cabinet ministers and deputy ministers.
He was also accorded the honour of presenting awards to the KCFC players.
Despite the setback, it remains a proud achievement for KCFC throughout this year's Malaysian League season, having finished as runners-up in the 2025/2026 Super League and qualifying for next year's AFC Champions League 2. -UKASnews
