SEA Games 2027 Sarawak Cluster Secretariat Established, Preparations Begin
KUCHING: Sarawak has commenced early preparations to co-host the 2027 SEA Games with the establishment of the SEA Games 2027 Secretariat (Sarawak Cluster).
The matter was finalised during the SEA Games 2027 Secretariat Meeting No. 1/2026, which was chaired by the Deputy Sarawak Secretary (Operations), Datu Hii Chang Kee, on Tuesday.
Under the Sarawak Cluster Local Organising Committee (LOC) Secretariat Structure, Datu Hii will serve as the Chairman, assisted by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development (MYSED) Dzulkornain Masron as the Deputy Chairman.
The Vice-Chairpersons will be held by Nancy Jolhi, Mu’azamir Jili, and Seroji Ludin, while the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Sarawak Sports Corporation Khairul Nizam Morshidi will serve as the Secretary.
The Sarawak Cluster LOC structure is further divided into four main divisions executing various roles to ensure the smooth running of the SEA Games organization.
The Strategic, Governance and Communication Division is led by Jenny Lee Siak Ne; the Corporate Services and Commercial Affairs Division is led by Asmawaty @ Siti Asmah Ahmad; the Venue Preparations, Games Operation and Stakeholders Experience Division led by Abdul Rani Abdullah; while Puvindra Pubeion Jayakumar heads the Digital, Technology and Games Systems Division.
In his address during the meeting, Datu Hii emphasised that the establishment of the secretariat is crucial to begin mobilising tasks to all involved committees to ensure the organization of the 2027 SEA Games in Sarawak runs smoothly and complies with established international standards.
During the meeting, several committees also presented the latest status of preparations, particularly regarding the readiness of competition venues.
For the record, Sarawak will host 17 out of 38 sports at the 2027 SEA Games, which is scheduled to take place from September 18 to 29.
The sports are aquatics, weightlifting, e-sports, gymnastics, golf, cricket, shooting, muay, petanque, squash, taekwondo, tennis, wushu, basketball, tenpin bowling, lawn bowls, and archery.
Additionally, Sarawak has also been given the honor of serving as the venue for the opening ceremony of the prestigious event. — UKASnews
