Decision To Contest In State Election Up To Sarawak Premier - Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah
KUCHING: Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas leaves it to the wisdom of the Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg to determine whether he will continue to contest or not in the upcoming Sarawak State Election (PRN).
Commenting on speculation regarding his retirement from the political arena, he stated that the matter is a prerogative of the party leadership and not something that should be decided based on rumours.
“I have no comment on that matter, I leave it to the Premier of Sarawak as the President of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB). He has the wisdom to determine whether a leader should retire or continue their service," he said.
He said this when met by reporters at the Gawai Dayak 2026 Open House celebration, which was officiated by the Sarawak Premier at the Unit for Other Religions (UNIFOR) Complex on Monday.
He added that leadership transition is a normal occurrence in politics, as every leader has their own tenure and role in spearheading state development.
He explained that the age factor also needs to be taken into account as it can affect a leader's capability to adapt to current developments and new technologies.
However, he stated that his health remains in good condition and leaves it entirely to the party leadership to make a decision regarding his candidacy in the upcoming State Election. — UKASnews
