Ngabang Gawai Strengthens Ties Between Leaders & Community In Meradong
MERADONG: The Ngabang Gawai programme, carried out from one longhouse to another, continues to serve as an important platform in strengthening relations between leaders and the community in rural areas.
Meradong Assemblyman Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing said the Hari Gawai celebration is not merely a cultural festival, but also a vessel to foster unity, a family spirit, and harmony among the multi-racial community in Sarawak.
He said this during the 26th Day of the Meradong Pre-Gawai Visit 2026 to several longhouses in the Sungai Rayah, Sungai Meradong, Skim B, and Sungai Selidap areas on Thursday.
According to Datuk Ding, a continuous grassroots approach is crucial to ensure that every voice of the people can be heard and understood more closely.
In addition, he emphasised that the Sarawak Government remains committed to ensuring that rural development continues to receive attention through various projects and initiatives capable of improving the people's standard of living.
Accordingly, he encouraged residents to continue cooperating with local leaders to ensure that every need and application can be channeled to the relevant parties for further action.
Earlier, his arrival along with his wife, Datin Kueh Nai Fun, at Rumah Ujit, Sungai Rayah was warmly welcomed by local residents through various cultural performances, including the ngajat dance, singing, and community activities that reflect the rich heritage of the Dayak community.
Throughout the visit, he also had the opportunity to mingle with the residents and personally hear various applications submitted by the longhouse chiefs and the local community.
Apart from the Ngabang Gawai programme, Datuk Ding and Datin Kueh Nai Fun also attended the wedding ceremony of Tuai Rumah Doris's daughter, which took place in a lively atmosphere with the presence of family members, friends, and guests from various areas. — UKASnews
