Public Advised To Remain Calm Ahead Of 36-Hour Water Supply Disruption
MIRI: Residents in Miri city are advised not to engage in panic buying ahead of the scheduled 36-hour water supply disruption, which will take place this June 10 and 11.
Miri City Mayor and Pujut Assemblyman Adam Yii Siew Sang said the public should instead make prudent preparations and purchase water supplies according to their actual needs, as the supply of drinking water is expected to be sufficient throughout the disruption period.
According to him, his side understands the concerns of residents who have started securing drinking water supplies in preparation for the disruption, but the public does not need to hoard excessive stocks of bottled water.
“The upcoming water supply disruption involves planned maintenance work and is expected to last for only about 36 hours, not for an extended period.
“Therefore, the public is encouraged to purchase supplies according to their actual needs so that the available supplies can be shared fairly with other families in the community,” he said in a media statement on Monday.
He also informed that based on communications with local supermarkets and suppliers, traders are actively restocking their existing inventories and arranging for additional supplies from outside Miri to meet consumer demand.
According to him, new supplies of drinking water will also continue to arrive over the next few days, and the public does not need to worry about a shortage of supplies.
In the meantime, he explained that most households only need to prepare sufficient water supplies for drinking and cooking purposes, while for other daily uses such as washing and cleaning the house, residents can store water in advance using buckets, storage containers, or water tanks.
Adam Yii also urged traders and retailers to play their part and fulfil their social responsibilities by maintaining reasonable retail prices and not taking advantage of the situation by raising prices excessively.
He emphasised that cooperation and a responsible attitude from all parties are crucial to ensure the community can smoothly navigate this temporary inconvenience. — UKASnews
