MASA Re-elects Dato Sri Dr Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel As President
KUCHING: The Institute of Management Sarawak (MASA) is strengthening its long-term sustainability strategy through a landmark hotel redevelopment initiative following the election of its new Board of Directors for the 2026–2028 term at its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Saturday.
MASA members re-elected Deputy Sarawak Secretary (Economic Planning and Development) Dato Sri Dr Muhammad Abdullah Zaidel as president, signalling continued confidence in his leadership as the organisation builds on more than three decades of professional development and management excellence in Sarawak.
The newly elected board for 2026-2028 term comprises Poh Ted Ang (Vice President – Business Community), Dr Fareiny Morni (Vice President – Student Community), Wan Mazli Wan Razali (Honorary Secretary), Aziz Balia (Honorary Treasurer), Ts. Gs. Br. Noor Nikman Salleh (Publicity Officer), Morshidi Fedrick, Dr Intan Rahmah M. Tazuddin, Dr Haseanti Hussein and Dr Lee Wen Chiat as ordinary board members.
In a statement, it said the key focus of the incoming board will be MASA’s transformation into a self-sustaining institution through the acquisition and redevelopment of a hotel property.
"The initiative is expected to generate recurring income to support leadership development programmes, professional education, research activities and community initiatives," the statement added.
It said the project aligns with the Sarawak Premier’s call for organisations to reduce dependence on external funding and strengthen institutional resilience through sustainable revenue streams.
Under the previous board, MASA expanded its influence through strategic partnerships, international collaborations and executive education programmes.
Among its notable achievements was its collaboration with the Malaysia Research and Education Foundation (MyREF), which led to the organisation of the Contemporary Leadership International Summit 2025 (CLIS 2025).
The summit attracted more than 1,000 participants from government, industry, academia and the community, providing a platform for discussions on leadership, governance, innovation and workforce development.
The partnership also introduced the Contemporary Leadership Webinar Series, the Professional Certificate in Contemporary Leadership (PCCL) programme and several executive development initiatives aimed at strengthening leadership capabilities.
MASA further enhanced access to global education opportunities through a collaboration with the University of Melbourne, enabling Sarawakians and working professionals to pursue a Master of Business programme while remaining in the state.
Established in 1993, MASA is a non-profit professional organisation dedicated to advancing management knowledge, leadership capability and professional excellence through education, research, networking and strategic partnerships. -UKASnews
