Sarawak’s STPM 2025 Overall Grade Point Average Improves To 2.75
KUCHING: The performance of the 2025 Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) in Sarawak continued to show positive improvement, with the state’s Cumulative Grade Point Average (PNGK) rising to 2.75 compared to 2.68 the previous year, reflecting the continued excellence of the state’s education system in producing quality and competitive human capital.
Sarawak Deputy Director of Education (School Management Sector) Dr Les Met said the achievement demonstrated the continuous commitment of educators, students, parents and various stakeholders in strengthening the quality of education in the state.
“Sarawak’s STPM 2025 PNGK increased from 2.68 in 2024 to 2.75 in 2025.
“This improvement reflects the continuous efforts of all parties in strengthening educational achievements in the state,” he said.
He said this when representing Sarawak Education Director Omar Mahli at the Sarawak-level STPM 2025 Results Announcement and Appreciation Ceremony held at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Tun Abang Haji Openg on Thursday.
Dr Les said the number of candidates who obtained a PNGK of 4.00 also increased to 115 candidates, or 2.19 per cent, compared to 92 candidates, or 1.61 per cent, in 2024.
More impressively, two candidates who took five subjects achieved straight 5As in all subjects taken, compared to no candidates achieving the feat in the previous year.
Meanwhile, the number of candidates who obtained 4As also increased from 91 to 110.
He added that the overall pass rate among candidates who took four and five subjects increased from 98.16 per cent in STPM 2024 to 98.71 per cent this year.
Of the total number of candidates who sat for the examination, 5,257 candidates, or 99.96 per cent, qualified to be awarded the STPM 2025 certificate.
Dr Les said all 22 subjects offered in Sarawak schools recorded full pass rates of above 60 per cent, while nine subjects showed improved performance compared to the previous year.
He said the Accounting and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) subjects continued to maintain a 100 per cent full pass rate, while Arabic recorded a significant improvement in terms of its full pass percentage.
At the school level, 14 schools achieved a PNGK of 3.00 and above, while 52 out of the 79 schools offering STPM recorded an improvement in PNGK compared to last year.
Sarawak also achieved success at the national level, with Kolej Tingkatan Enam Saratok being recognised as the National Best STPM 2025 Form Six Centre in the Form Six College category, while SMK Sacred Heart, Sibu received recognition as the National Best Form Six Centre in the Mod 2 and Mod 3 categories.
In addition, SMK Methodist, Sibu student Sharifah Nur Hazwani Wan Sapare brought pride to Sarawak after being awarded the National Best Student for the STPM 2025 Bahasa Melayu subject.
Dr Les also expressed his appreciation to all teachers, parents, school communities and education strategic partners who played an important role in supporting the excellence of STPM students in the state.
He hoped that the achievements recorded this year would serve as a catalyst for continuous efforts to improve Sarawak’s education performance and produce more outstanding students capable of contributing to the development of the state and country in the future. -UKASnews
