SKS Kapit Platform To Bring Government & People Closer
KUCHING: Kapit will serve as the main stage of the fourth series of the Sarawakku Sayang (SKS) Programme taking place from 26 to 28 June as a platform to strengthen government-people relations, besides showcasing the division's strategic role as a 'powerhouse' that drives Sarawak's development.
Minister of Works Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi said that organising SKS in Kapit gives the people an opportunity to obtain direct information on various government policies, assistance and initiatives, besides highlighting the high potential of the division in supporting the state's development.
"I consider Kapit to be 'the powerhouse of Sarawak'. The powerhouse is because two hydroelectric dams, namely Murum and Bakun are located here.
"And in two or three years, the Baleh Dam will also be completed and located in the Kapit Division. This is what generates the electricity supply to the whole of Sarawak,” he said.
He said this when appearing as a guest on Juh Randau UKAS to discuss the Sarawakku Sayang 2026 Programme with Kapit Division Resident Elvis Didit at the UKAS Studio on Wednesday.
The Kapit Member of Parliament said the Kapit community also expressed excitement over the organisation of SKS which allowed them to obtain information directly on various government assistance and initiatives including free higher education, assistance for the people and digital facilities provided by the Sarawak Government.
Meanwhile, Elvis said the response received from local entrepreneurs for SKS Kapit was very encouraging as all business lots provided were filled in a short period of time.
“The involvement of entrepreneurs is very encouraging. All 50 of the lots designated for selling food and beverages have been taken up.
“Another section is for those who sell handicrafts and local products such as kelulut honey and so on,” he explained.
He added that the encouraging response reflected the strong commitment of the local business community in supporting the organisation of the programme as well as opening up opportunities for them to promote their respective products to visitors.
The official opening ceremony of the fourth series of SKS is scheduled to be officiated by the Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg on 27 June, who will also deliver an address and attend several arranged programmes during his visit to Kapit.
Apart from featuring the Sarawak Pavilion and Kapit Kitchen which bring together various local entrepreneurs, SKS Kapit will also be enlivened with various activities including folk sports and games, e-Peraduan lucky draws and cultural performances involving the local community.
The organisation of the programme reflects SKS as a comprehensive platform that combines elements of development, entrepreneurship, government service delivery and community involvement in an event that strengthens ties with the people. -UKASnews
