BINTULU: The Sarawak Government commits to strengthening native land ownership when 189 land owners received title deeds under Section 18 of the Sarawak Land Code, while another 39 received Temporary Occupancy Licenses (TOL) at the Land Title Deed and TOL Handover Ceremony for the Bintulu area which took place at the BDA Auditorium, Wisma Bintulu, on Monday.
The ceremony was officiated by Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, who also witnessed the handover of title deeds and TOL to the recipients.
Bintulu Divisional Land and Survey Superintendent Sr Haslinda Hamdan said the handover reflects the ongoing commitment of the Sarawak Government in accelerating the process of issuing land title deeds to the people through the implementation of the new Native Customary Rights (NCR) initiative.
According to her, a total of 189 land title deeds under Section 18 of the Sarawak Land Code were submitted involving a total area of 761,437 hectares, in addition to 39 TOL involving 39 lots.
She shared that the handing over of the title deeds involved the areas of Sungai Senunok and Sungai Kelebu in the Kakus constituency, Rasan River in Tubau which includes the Murum constituency and Kemena constituency, as well as Sepadoh River in the Jepak constituency.
She added that the TOL was handed over to 39 recipients under the Kampung Melayu Tubau Village Expansion Scheme (SPK) as an effort to provide a more organised residential area for the local community.
Haslinda also stressed that the Sarawak Land and Survey Department will continue to intensify efforts to speed up the work of land measurement and the issuance of title deeds to ensure that more people obtain validity of their land ownership.
Also present were Minister for Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom, Minister in the Sarawak Premier's Department Dato Sri John Sikie Tayai, Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development Datuk Majang Renggi, Murum Assemblyman Kennedy Chukpai Ugon and Jepak Assemblyman Iskandar Turkee. -UKASnews
