Bridge Project Set To Spark Economic Boom On Sibu's West Bank
SIBU: The proposed construction of a bridge linking Sibu town with the west bank area is expected to catalyse the formation of a new growth zone, thereby accelerating economic development, boosting investment value and opening up more opportunities for local residents.
Sarawak Deputy Premier, Datuk Amar Prof Dr Sim Kui Hian, said the strategic infrastructure project, which has received immediate support from the Sarawak Premier, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, demonstrates the Sarawak Government's commitment to ensuring development is carried out comprehensively without sidelining any area.
He said the bridge's construction would not only enhance connectivity, but also serve as a catalyst for the development of Sibu's west bank area, which holds great potential to be explored in the future.
"We need to work hard to secure victory in Bawang Assan, and we must ensure that Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) continues to be given the mandate so that the Sarawak Government's various initiatives can be carried forward.
"This includes the construction of this bridge, which will spark an economic boom and development on Sibu's west bank," he said at the 12th Anniversary Celebration of the SUPP Bawang Assan Branch with the Iban Community of Bawang Assan on Saturday.
In line with this development agenda, Datuk Amar Prof Dr Sim explained that the infrastructure facility is believed to be able to attract more investment.
This, he said, would in turn stimulate local economic activity and raise residents' standard of living through employment opportunities and faster development in the future.
Also present were Deputy Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government Datuk Michael Tiang Ming Tee, Meradong Assemblyman Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing, and Bukit Assek Assemblyman Chieng Jin Ek, as well as Senator Robert Lau. -UKASnews
