SEBUYAU: The establishment of AirBorneo is not aimed solely at profit, but rather to ensure that the people enjoy better, affordable and comprehensive flight access, thus strengthening Sarawak's connectivity with domestic and foreign destinations.
Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg said that the Sarawak Government's strategic initiative also serves to stimulate economic growth, tourism and open up more opportunities for the people and the business community.
Taking the example of AirBorneo's recent announcement of flight ticket pricing, he stressed that it will fully benefit the people, particularly during the festive season.
"At least I can stabilise the fares so the people do not have to pay for tickets that are too expensive.
“Tickets for one person are already RM700 to RM800, not including the wife or children who want to come back to celebrate Hari Raya or Gawai, it is very demanding. Many Sarawakians are in Johor, but they still want to come back home," he said.
He said this while speaking at the Batang Lupar 1 Bridge Opening Ceremony, here on Thursday.
The Sarawak Premier also expressed the possibility of further lowering the price of flight tickets, depending on the state’s continued prosperity.
Touching on the impact on Sarawak's economy, Datuk Patinggi Abang Zohari insisted that the initiative would not significantly affect the economy, but instead give returns to the state.
"This will not affect our economy, on the contrary, it will increase our economy because many foreigners, for example from Indonesia, come to receive medical treatment in Kuching.
"So, we must have sufficient capacity. We must be prudent in managing our economy and it must be well organised,” he further stressed. -UKASnews
