Batang Lupar 1 Bridge A 'Game Changer' For Sarawak's Coastal Route
SEBUYAU: The opening of the Batang Lupar 1 Bridge has been described as a "game changer" for the development of Sarawak's coastal areas.
Minister for Utility and Telecommunication, who is also Sebuyau Assemblyman, Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi, said the area is a strategic route as it offers a shortcut that will shorten travel time within the region.
"This is one of the most meaningful gifts to us who live in the coastal areas, not only in Sebuyau, but also to all residents along the coastal road route in Sarawak," he said.
He said this when speaking at the Official Opening Ceremony of the Batang Lupar 1 Bridge, officiated by Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg, here, on Thursday.
Adding a sweeter note, he explained that the bridge, along with two others — the Igan Bridge and the Rambungan Bridge — were built using the Sarawak Government's own budget after the three projects were previously cancelled by the Federal Government.
He also expressed his appreciation to residents in the coastal areas, particularly in Sebuyau, for their cooperation in enabling the Batang Lupar Bridge to be implemented and completed, bringing about a proud landmark for Sarawak.
He said the Batang Lupar 1 Bridge has now brought about significant changes in Sebuyau, Meludam, Pusa and surrounding areas, with traffic flow in the region increasing and strengthening the local economy.
Also present were Sarawak Deputy Premiers Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and Datuk Amar Professor Dr Sim Kui Hian, Speaker of the Sarawak Legislative Assembly Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Asfia Awang Nassar, Sarawak Ministers, Sarawak Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki, Sarawak Deputy Ministers, Heads of Departments, and other distinguished guests. -UKASnews
