Sarawak Civil Servants 'Gatekeeper' Of Data-Based Development
KUCHING: Sarawak civil servants must move from being policy implementers to 'gatekeepers' or facilitators and drivers of data-based development to ensure Sarawak continues to face the era of digitisation.
Sarawak Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki said that the change in role required civil servants to have tenacity, willingness to change as well as continuous commitment to improve their digital skills, data literacy and the ability to think critically and innovatively.
"This requires tenacity, willingness to change and passion to continue learning.
Therefore, members of the Sarawak Civil Service are required to continue to improve digital skills and data literacy as well as build the ability to think critically and innovatively in the face of a global environment that is increasingly complex and driven by technology," he said.
He said this in a special address in conjunction with the 2026 Sarawak Day Celebration.
Meanwhile, he explained that civil servants must practice the 3R principles of Revisit, Rethink and Recharge to ensure that the public sector is always agile in adapting to the changes and demands of digitalisation.
He said that the next five years are expected to be more challenging, but he expressed confidence that teamwork, integrity and high commitment will enable the Sarawak Civil Service to continue to strengthen its role as the main driver of the state's development.
Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar also reminded that the Sarawak Day Celebration commemorates the historic moment when for the first time a Sarawakian native took the position in the top leadership of the Sarawak Government on 22 July 1963.
He said it served as a symbol of the endeavour of previous leaders in safeguarding the rights, dignity and future of the state. -UKASnews
