Nibong Tada Water Treatment Plant Operates Efficiently, Supplies Clean Water To 847 Households
SIBU: The Nibong Tada Water Treatment Plant, with a capacity of five million litres per day (5 MLD), is currently operating well and supplying clean water to 847 households in the longhouse areas around Nibong Tada.
This was confirmed by the Minister for Utility and Telecommunication, Dato Sri Julaihi Narawi, after conducting a follow-up visit to the plant on Thursday to inspect its operational performance.
According to him, the water treatment plant using 'Acute System' technology functions well, thereby ensuring that clean water supply can be distributed continuously to local residents.
“The plant's intake, which gets its raw water source from the Rajang River, is located about 200 metres from the plant site, with raw water supply found to be sufficient, stable, and reliable,” he said during a working visit to the plant on Thursday.
During the visit, he and his delegation also inspected the water treatment process at the plant, including seeing for themselves the difference between the raw water and the treated water produced.
According to him, the treated water supplied meets the established drinking water quality standards.
Dato Sri Julaihi said efforts to provide treated water supply to rural residents will continue to be empowered through the construction of new large-capacity water treatment plants, upgrading existing plants to increase capacity, and constructing small-scale water treatment plants using Acute System technology, as implemented in Nibong Tada and several other locations in Sarawak.
He added that currently there are 23 small water treatment plants using Acute System technology across Sarawak, in addition to the Sarawak Alternative Water Supply System (SAWAS) which also helps distribute clean water supply to residents in rural areas.
Also present during the visit were the Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Utility and Telecommunication (MUT) Datu Jafri Lias, Acting Director of the Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) Tamida Daadi, engineers, senior officers from MUT and JBALB, as well as local Community Leaders and Village Headmen (KMKK). - UKASnews
