Tambirat Regatta Not Yet Decided, Public Advised To Refer To Official Channels
ASAJAYA: The public is advised not to easily believe rumours circulating on social media regarding claims that the Tambirat Regatta or Samarahan Regatta will be held this September, as no official decision has been made on the matter thus far.
Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts who is also Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development, Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the intention to organise the regatta again does exist, but its implementation has yet to be decided due to safety factors.
He said the Kampung Tambirat waterfront area, identified as the venue for the event, has experienced riverbank collapse and requires repair works first.
"The Premier of Sarawak has agreed that the project to repair and extend the entire Kampung Tambirat waterfront embankment be carried out, and the tender process is expected to be called in the near future.
"Only after the repair works are fully completed will we reconsider organising the Samarahan Regatta," he said when met by the media after the "IIC Cares and Environment 2026: Our Mosque, Our Society" programme at Masjid Darul Rahmah, Tambirat Lot, here on Saturday.
Dato Sri Abdul Karim also reminded the public to always refer to official channels for accurate information and not to be easily influenced by the spread of false information on social media.
Earlier, the Asajaya Assemblyman attended the Mosque Cleanliness Gotong-Royong Programme organised by Majlis Islam Sarawak (MIS) through the Islamic Information Centre (IIC), in collaboration with the Village Security and Development Committee (JKKK) and the Masjid Darul Rahmah Management Committee. -UKASnews
