Sarawak Youth Week 2026 Set To Boost Youth Development Agenda
KUCHING: The Sarawak Government continues to strengthen the youth development agenda through the organisation of the Sarawak Youth Week 2026 as a platform to bring together young people through a wide range of programmes focusing on leadership, talent development, entrepreneurship, skills and volunteerism.
Minister for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said the event, set to take place in Samarahan from 10 to 16 August, reflects the government's continued commitment to empowering youth as a strategic asset for the state's development.
"This celebration is held every year to appreciate the contributions of youth and to show that the government is always committed to youth development and progress,” he said.
He said this at a press conference after chairing the final coordination meeting for the Sarawak Youth Week 2026 here on Tuesday.
According to him, the opening ceremony will be held on 15 August at the Samarahan Civic Centre and is scheduled to be officiated by Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg.
Dato Sri Abdul Karim said the theme ‘Belia Aspirasi Kita’ has been retained to reflect the belief that youth are the driving force behind Sarawak's future, underscoring the government's commitment to nurturing a progressive, resilient and competitive generation.
He said that the celebration also serves as a platform to recognise youth excellence through the presentation of the Outstanding Male Youth Award, Outstanding Female Youth Award and Best Youth Association Award as appreciation to individuals and associations that have shown outstanding achievements and could act as inspiration to the younger generation.
Throughout the event, various youth development-based activities will be held including the Youth Expo, Youth Camp, Youth Skill and Creativity, Youth Marketplace, e-Sport, Heritage Games as well as talent and entrepreneurship development programmes involving more than 30 local youth entrepreneurs. -UKASnews
