SARIKEI: Residents of Jalan Ann Hock, Sungai Sebanyak are now able to benefit from safer and more comfortable road facilities after a new concrete bridge was completed, replacing the old wooden bridge.

The 36 metre long bridge was built at a cost of RM449,000 through Federal Government allocations and took about three months to complete.

Deputy Minister of Plantation and Commodities Dato Sri Huang Tiong Sii said the construction of the new bridge was implemented after receiving complaints from residents about the condition of the old bridge which was damaged and dangerous to users.

The Sarikei Member of Parliament added that the construction of roads and bridges is among the basic infrastructures that play a crucial role in improving the connectivity network, particularly in rural areas.

"When I received the complaint from residents, I immediately submitted an application to the government to obtain funds to build a new bridge to ensure the safety and well-being of the local community," he said during a visit to the project site with officials from the RISDA Sarawak Office on Wednesday.

Dato Sri Huang said that efforts to strengthen basic facilities will continue to be a priority to ensure that rural people enjoy balanced and quality development. -UKASnews
