Miri Welcomes Arrival Of Sepeda Amal Borneo 2026 Participants Completing 680-Kilometre Ride
MIRI: A total of 21 participants successfully completed a 680-kilometre charity ride from Kota Kinabalu, Sabah to Miri, Sarawak over six days in conjunction with Sepeda Amal Borneo (SAB) 2026, which concluded at Pullman Miri Waterfront on Friday.
Sarawak Minister for Transport and Senadin Assemblyman Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin said that Sepeda Amal Borneo is not merely a cycling event, but rather a movement carrying a message of care, solidarity, and hope for those in need.
According to him, the ride themed “Pedal for Care, Ride for Hope” carries a greater purpose, where every kilometre traversed aims to raise public awareness and encourage contributions to help children requiring life-saving treatments.
“Every pedal stroke raises awareness, every kilometre covered inspires generosity, and every contribution helps ensure that children in need of treatment receive proper care,” he said during the Closing Ceremony of Sepeda Amal Borneo 2026 on Friday.
He said the six-day journey tested the participants' physical strength, endurance, and determination as they faced changing weather, challenging terrain, and long cycling hours; however, every kilometre travelled carried a purpose far greater than merely reaching the finish line.
He added that this year's edition
marks the fifth organisation of Sepeda Amal Borneo, which began in 2022 as Cycle for Cancer.
Across five editions, participants have cycled over 3,900 kilometres across Borneo and successfully raised over RM1.2 million to support various healthcare initiatives.
According to him, this achievement is not only measured by the cycling distance or the amount of funds raised, but through the lives touched, hope restored, and opportunities created for children and families across Malaysia.
In the meantime, he praised the efforts of the Malaysian Association of Paediatric Surgery (MAPS) and the Malaysian Patients’ Organisation for Primary Immunodeficiencies (MYPOPI), who were the beneficiaries of this year's ride.
He noted that MAPS continues to champion timely and accessible paediatric surgical care, while MYPOPI plays a crucial role in raising awareness about Primary Immunodeficiency as well as the importance of early diagnosis and timely intervention.
He also welcomed efforts to promote cycling not only as a healthy recreational activity, but also as a platform for community engagement and social responsibility.
According to him, cycling is also increasingly recognised worldwide as a sustainable and environmentally friendly mode of transportation, besides benefiting health, strengthening community bonds, and encouraging an active lifestyle.
Also present were the President of the Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) Datuk Dr Thirunavukarasu Rajoo, Former President of MMA Dato Dr Kalwinder Singh Khaira, and MAPS President Professor Dr Shireen Anne Nah Han Yien. -UKASnews
