Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn stated that the project involved the construction of a modern academic block as well as a hostel block providing accommodation for 50 male pupils and 50 female pupils.

According to him, the project executed by Awene Era Warisan began on 13 March 2020 and was fully completed on 30 July 2022 at a total cost of RM7.5 million.

“The construction of these new facilities provides a more conducive, safe, and comfortable learning environment for pupils, thereby enhancing the quality of teaching and learning while supporting human capital development in rural areas,” he said.

He said this when speaking at the Officiating Ceremony for the Redevelopment Project for Dilapidated Schools in Sarawak Using the RM1 Billion Allocation at SK Melugu, here on Friday.

Dato Sri Roland said the implementation of the project reflects the continuous commitment of the Federal Government and the Sarawak Government in ensuring rural pupils enjoy educational facilities comparable to those in urban areas.

However, he stressed that educational transformation cannot rely solely on the provision of infrastructure, but must instead be supported by a quality education system, skilled teaching staff, and a learning environment capable of nurturing a knowledgeable and competitive generation prepared to face future challenges.

Also present were the Deputy Minister for Education, Innovation and Talent Development Datuk Dr Annuar Rapa’ee, Bukit Begunan Assemblyman Datuk Mong Dagang, and Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Education, Innovation and Talent Development Datu Adana Jed.

For the record, SK Melugu currently has 249 pupils including preschool pupils, 26 teachers, and eight Implementation Support Group (AKP) personnel. -UKASnews
