MIRI: All four bridges in Kampung Pujut Tanjong Batu have now been upgraded to concrete structures, completing efforts to improve safety and access for local residents.

Sarawak Minister for Transport Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin said the latest project worth RM250,000 replaced the wooden plank bridge which was dilapidated and no longer suitable for use.

According to him, the completion of the bridge concluded the process of upgrading all four bridges in the village through the Rural Transformation Project (RTP).

“This bridge is the last of the four bridges in Kampung Pujut Tanjong Batu that have been upgraded to concrete structures,” he said when inspecting the completed project, here on Friday.

He said the new facility would not only facilitate resident movement, but also provide a safer daily commute route for the local community.

Meanwhile, the Senadin Assemblyman said several additional works needed to be carried out to complete the safety aspects around the bridge.

In this regard, the Miri City Council (MBM) has been asked to install four units of barriers at the entrance and exit of the bridge and pave the gravel path at the nearby intersection to connect with the bridge path.

According to Dato Sri Lee, the MBM engineers present during the visit have agreed to carry out the additional work in the near future.

Meanwhile, Kampung Pujut Tanjong Batu Village Chief Usman Sulaiman said that the implementation of the project reflects the government's continuous efforts to improve basic facilities and the quality of life of residents.

He added that the village has also been provided with other facilities including roads, drainage systems, electricity and gas supply.

He said that the improvement of the drainage system also reduced the risk of flooding during heavy rainfall, although periodic maintenance is still required to ensure proper function of the drainage system.

The bridge upgrade project began on 8 December 2025 and was completed on 7 April 2026, according to the set implementation period. -UKASnews
