Affin Group & Baiduri Bank Sign MOU To Expand Cross-Border Banking Between Malaysia & Brunei Darussalam
KUALA LUMPUR: AFFIN Group (AFFIN) and Brunei Darussalam's Baiduri Bank have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to broaden cross-border banking cooperation and create new commercial opportunities across both markets.
The strategic partnership merges AFFIN’s banking capabilities across Malaysia with Baiduri Bank’s strong domestic presence in Brunei, creating a direct financial corridor to facilitate trade, investment, and business expansion.
Under the agreement, both institutions will explore collaboration across commercial and retail banking, trade finance, treasury, and investment services — including investment banking, stockbroking, asset management, and unit trusts.
The partnership arrives as bilateral trade between Malaysia and Brunei remains robust, reaching RM5.8 billion in 2025 and RM2.4 billion in the first half of 2026.
Both nations continue to strengthen economic ties across key sectors such as energy, connectivity, agriculture, tourism, and the halal economy, alongside deepening economic integration across the Borneo region.
AFFIN Group President and Group Chief Executive Officer Datuk Wan Razly Abdullah noted that the collaboration creates a timely platform to connect businesses to growing regional opportunities.
“With economic linkages between Malaysia and Brunei Darussalam continuing to grow, including across Borneo, and Visit Brunei Year 2027 on the horizon, we see ample scope to deepen commercial activity and create sustainable value for both institutions," he said.
Baiduri Bank Chief Executive Officer Ti Eng Hui echoed the sentiment, stating that both banks are well-positioned to support businesses expanding across Malaysia and the wider Borneo region.
The signing ceremony was conducted by Datuk Wan Razly Abdullah and Ti Eng Hui, witnessed by Baiduri Bank Head of Institutional Banking Yang Mulia Ak Nor Muhammad Nizam Pg Haji Tengah and Affin Hwang Investment Bank Berhad Chairman Hasli Hashim.
The MoU aligns with the AFFIN Axelerate 2028 (AX28) strategic roadmap, which focuses on customer service excellence, digital leadership, and responsible banking. - UKASnews
