414 Members Of Sarawak Para Contingent Ready To Defend Title At Para SUKMA XXII
KUCHING: A total of 414 members of the Sarawak Para contingent are now entering the final preparation phase ahead of the Para Sukan Malaysia (Para SUKMA) XXII Selangor 2026 next month.
The matter was confirmed by Minister of Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah following her inspection of athletics and swimming training sessions at the Sarawak Youth and Sports Complex here on Sunday.
The visit, which lasted more than an hour, also provided an opportunity for her to observe the athletes’ training progress firsthand, while boosting their morale and providing support ahead of the biennial event.
The athletes’ preparations are now at a crucial stage, with emphasis placed on physical and mental readiness before the contingent departs for Selangor on 1 September.
The Sarawak contingent will take on the challenge as the defending champions of the tournament, while carrying the responsibility of maintaining the state’s excellent reputation in para sports.
Para SUKMA XXII will feature 10 sports, namely boccia, para badminton, para lawn bowls, para chess, para archery, para athletics, para table tennis, para powerlifting, para swimming and para tenpin bowling.
Also present were Deputy Minister of Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development, who is also Chef de Mission (CDM) of the Sarawak Para Contingent, Datuk Dr Mohammad Razi Sitam, Sarawak Welfare Department (JKMS) Director Semawi Mohamad, Para Athletics Head Coach Matthew Chin Hiong Choi, and Sarawak Para Athletics Team Manager Siti Nurbaya Ramin. -UKASnews
