KPWKM Proposes Additional RM168 Million To Strengthen Assistance For Target Groups
KUCHING: The Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development (KPWKM) has proposed an additional allocation of more than RM168 million to strengthen assistance for women and families, including helping them address challenges related to family responsibilities and welfare.
Its Minister Dato Sri Nancy Shukri said the additional allocation was important to ensure more comprehensive support could be provided, particularly following the increasing participation of women in the workforce, who need to balance work demands with family responsibilities.
She said the Government needed to ensure appropriate support was available for families so that caregiving responsibilities would not become a barrier for women to continue contributing to the workforce.
“We have an additional 168 million, that is an additional amount, 168 over million,” she said.
She said this when met by the media after the Launching Ceremony of the Care Sector Initiative under the MADANI Budget 2026 and Engagement Session on the Development of National Care Standards for Senior Citizens and Persons with Disabilities (PWD) at a hotel here on Monday.
Dato Sri Nancy said among the assistance being given attention was support for women who had obtained court orders related to child maintenance but faced difficulties in receiving payments.
The Santubong Member of Parliament added that KPWKM also provided legal services to assist women in obtaining maintenance rights that had been granted by the courts.
“Among the assistance we provide is for women who have gone through divorce and obtained court orders related to child maintenance. We also assist this group,” she said.
Meanwhile, Dato Sri Nancy said the proposed additional allocation also took into account efforts to strengthen the welfare and economic empowerment of KPWKM’s target groups.
However, she said the actual amount and form of the additional allocation would only be known after the Budget process was finalised.
Also present were Women’s Development Department director-general Dato Hanani Sapit, National Welfare Foundation chief executive officer Nordina Haron, KPWKM Community Wellbeing Division secretary Asmar Asmadi Abdullah Sani, Malaysian Social Institute director Norhaslinda Mohd Sibi, and Sarawak Welfare Department director Semawi Mohamad. -UKASnews
