SELANGOR: The Sukan Malaysia (SUKMA) XXII Selangor 2026 officially closed on Monday after 10 days of competition that saw young athletes from across the country vying for their contingents in 37 sports.

The Sarawak contingent finished the Games in fourth place overall, collecting 41 gold, 40 silver and 62 bronze medals for a total of 143 medals.

Host state Selangor was crowned overall champion after dominating the medal tally with 101 gold, 73 silver and 71 bronze medals, totalling 245 medals.

Wilayah Persekutuan finished as overall runner-up with 51 gold, 54 silver and 52 bronze medals for a total of 157 medals, while Terengganu placed third with 43 gold, 44 silver and 36 bronze medals, totalling 123 medals.

The closing ceremony continued with the presentation of the Best Female Athlete Award, Best Male Athlete Award and Overall Champion Award, in recognition of the excellence shown throughout the Games.

The ceremony reached its climax with a Royal Address and the declaration of closure of SUKMA XXII Selangor 2026, officially marking the end of the 22nd edition of the country's biennial multi-sports Games.

The closing ceremony was officiated by the Raja Muda of Selangor, DYTM Tengku Amir Shah Ibni Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj.

Leading the Sarawak contingent at the closing ceremony was Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development, who is also Chef de Mission of the Sarawak contingent, Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu.

SUKMA 2026, held from August 15 to 24, brought together more than 12,000 athletes and officials from contingents nationwide, including Brunei Darussalam, with events held at venues around Selangor.

Following Selangor, Kelantan will welcome the SUKMA family in 2028 as host of the next edition. -UKASnews
