MIRI: Sarawak's progress in new fields such as artificial intelligence (AI), satellite technology, hydrogen energy and smart agriculture must be supported by strengthening the integrity and morals of the community to ensure that the development achieved provides real benefits to the people.

Deputy Minister for Youth, Sports and Entrepreneurship Development Datuk Dr Ripin Lamat said that the progress of the state should not be measured based on physical development and economic growth alone, but instead should be accompanied by the formation of the community's mindset, identity and character.

"Practices such as punctuality, carrying out responsibilities honestly and not taking advantage of others for personal gain are important foundations for the progress of a nation," he said.

He said this while representing Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan at the 2026 Miri Division Maulidur Rasul Celebration at the Miri City Stadium, on Tuesday.

According to him, the Sarawak Government is currently expanding development in strategic areas including digital infrastructure, AI, satellite technology, sustainable green energy, hydrogen economy and smart agriculture.

He said, the implementation of the project is not only aimed at increasing economic capacity, but also opens up space for the community to adapt to technological changes and new opportunities.

However, he stressed that progress must be accompanied by the values ​​of trust and integrity that can be modeled on the life of Prophet Muhammad.

"The values ​​of integrity and trust shown by the Prophet Muhammad need to be applied in everyday life, including when carrying out responsibilities at work and in society," he said.

He said an approach that combines economic development, knowledge and spirituality is crucial to form a society that can enjoy progress without neglecting moral values ​​and identity.

In the meantime, Datuk Dr Ripin called on the community to continue to maintain harmony and respect racial and religious differences because unity in diversity is one of Sarawak's main strengths.

The celebration themed 'Ummah Maju Makmur' also saw a rally and banner competition involving 85 entries from schools, government agencies and associations.
