LUBOK ANTU: The Sarawak Government has allocated RM6 million for the construction of a road to Nanga Kapu as part of efforts to strengthen connectivity and improve access for rural communities in the Batang Ai area.

Deputy Minister for International Trade, Industry and Investment and Batang Ai Assemblyman Datuk Dr Malcolm Mussen Lamoh said the infrastructure development was important to ensure rural communities also benefited from better connectivity.

“The Government’s RM6 million allocation for the construction of the road to Nanga Kapu reflects the Sarawak Government’s commitment to strengthening connectivity and improving access to rural areas,” he said when officiating the Batang Ai Community Engagement Programme here on Friday.

Meanwhile, Datuk Dr Malcolm said the quality of leadership also played an important role in ensuring an area continued to progress and develop.

He said community leaders needed to demonstrate commitment, the ability to listen to the people’s concerns and determination to bring community issues and needs to the attention of the Government.

He also highlighted the importance of the Rural Transformation Project (RTP) in providing facilities and implementing development projects that directly benefit local communities.

He said the implementation of such projects was an important approach in addressing grassroots development needs, particularly in improving facilities and the wellbeing of rural communities.

At the same event, Datuk Dr Malcolm also approved RM10,000 in Rural Minor Projects (MRP) funding for the Nanga Kapu Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK), as well as RM8,000 for the Nanga Kapu Women’s Bureau. -UKASnews
