Sarawak Government Continues To Support Community-Based Festivals
SIBU: The Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Sarawak (MTCP) will continue to support community based festivals such as the Sibu Jaya Water Festival, which is seen as capable of strengthening unity and relationships among a multi-racial and intergenerational community.
According to its Minister Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, such festivals not only offer various exciting activities to the public, but also serve as an important platform to strengthen family institutions and the spirit of togetherness.
According to him, the community-based concept applied in the Sibu Jaya Water Festival allows all levels of society to be directly involved, regardless of race.
“Among the most attractive things about the Sibu Jaya Water Festival is that it is community-based.
“All levels of society participate together regardless of race, including the Dayak, Malay, Melanau, and Chinese communities,” he said when met at the Sibu Jaya Water Festival at the Azman Hashim Community Sports Complex, Sibu Jaya on Saturday.
He noted that response to the festival has also grown increasingly encouraging year by year, with more than 10,000 visitors attending to enliven its organisation this year.
He noted that comprehensive community involvement proves that community-based programmes can serve as an effective medium to foster closer relations among local residents.
At the same time, he added that the festival also provides an opportunity for family members of various age groups to participate together in the organized activities.
“We can see participation from children and parents all the way to grandparents who attend together.
“Festivals like this provide space for all family members to gather and spend time together,” he said. — UKASnews
