Rural Youth Urged To Be Bold In Exploring New Opportunities
BAU: Rural youth have been urged not to limit their potential, but instead to continuously strive for self-improvement, be willing to try new things and diligently explore new opportunities to build a better future.
Sarawak Deputy Minister for Transport (Riverine and Marine) and Tasik Biru Assemblyman Datuk Henry Harry Jinep said a rural background should not be a barrier to achieving success in various fields.
“Talent is not necessarily limited to academics. Some have strengths in sports, technology, leadership, the arts, technical skills or entrepreneurship.
“Many successful individuals started out in rural areas and overcame various challenges before reaching where they are today,” he said.
He said this when officiating the 2026 Youth Career Aspirations Programme at Dewan Panglima Kurow, Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Bau on Friday.
According to him, choosing a path after completing school was not an easy decision, but young people needed to be prepared to take responsibility for the choices they made.
“Some want to pursue further studies, some want to enter the workforce, while others are interested in venturing into entrepreneurship.
“In today’s world, technology, the digital economy and changing industry needs have opened up many new opportunities. At the same time, competition is also becoming increasingly intense,” he said.
In this regard, he advised young people to make wise use of social media and digital technology as platforms to gain knowledge, build networks and explore opportunities.
Datuk Henry hoped that the people of Bau would not only be able to seek opportunities outside the area, but also have the capacity to return and contribute to the development of Bau and Sarawak as development opportunities continued to expand.
