346 Batu Kawah B2 Licence Recipients Urged To Prioritise Safety & Avoid Illegal Racing
KUCHING: A total of 346 participants of the 2026 Class B2 Driver’s Licence Assistance Programme in the Batu Kawa constituency who successfully obtained their licences have been reminded to use them responsibly and steer clear of illegal street racing and ‘Mat Rempit’ activities.
Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Professor Dr Sim Kui Hian said possessing a driver’s licence does not give a person the freedom to ride or drive as they please, but represents a responsibility to obey the law and prioritise safety.
“Recipients of this programme must never get involved in activities that break the law or serve no useful purpose.
“Use this licence for something worthwhile, such as taking your parents for medical treatment, going to work, earning an honest living and building a better life,” he said.
He made these remarks while speaking at the licence presentation ceremony held here on Sunday.
Datuk Amar Dr Sim said a driver’s licence should serve as a means for recipients to fulfil their daily responsibilities, earn a living and improve their quality of life, rather than become a cause of accidents or lifelong regret.
According to him, the Class B2 Driver’s Licence Assistance Programme is among government initiatives benefiting the B40 and lower-income groups by enabling them to obtain motorcycle licences legally and safely.
He noted that this initiative not only assists the target group in obtaining a license but also has the potential to create job opportunities and improve socioeconomic status and household income, particularly within the logistics and transportation sectors.
He also described the success of the 346 participants in obtaining their licences after undergoing the screening, training and examination requirements set by the Road Transport Department (JPJ) as an achievement worthy of recognition.
Meanwhile, he urged JPJ and the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) to further strengthen enforcement and cooperation in addressing traffic law violations, especially illegal racing activities.
The Batu Kawah Assemblyman added that government efforts through road safety campaigns, traffic education and licence assistance programmes would not fully achieve their objectives without a corresponding change in attitude among road users. -UKASnews
