KUCHING: The Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) will hold workshops and engagement sessions with media practitioners in Sarawak to facilitate the dissemination of accurate information related to election coverage preparations.

Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier's Department (Corporate Affairs, Information and UKAS) Datuk Abdullah Saidol said the programme will involve all media organisations including Radio Television Malaysia (RTM), the Information Department and other media agencies.

According to him, the workshop aims to help journalists obtain the basic information needed to produce reports related to elections and pre-elections.

"We understand that Sarawak is vast and we understand the challenges for some journalists to reach the location, get information on the candidates, size of the state constituency, location of the voting district centre, number of voters, population ethnicity and so on," he said.

He said this in a press conference after paying a courtesy visit on Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri (Dr) Abang Abdul Rahman Zohari Tun Datuk Abang Openg at Kompleks Satria Pertiwi on Wednesday.

He added that the workshop will be carried out by zones beginning from the South Zone, the Central Zone, and followed by the North Zone to enable the media to obtain the necessary information.

Datuk Abdullah said that preparations with the media will be made in advance although the date of the state election is yet to be announced.

According to him, the focus is currently on the last Sarawak Legislative Assembly (DUN) Sitting for this term.

He said that the announcement now being awaited is the presentation of the Sarawak Budget 2027 by the Sarawak Premier. -UKASnews
