Sarawak Cultural Night Enlivens SKS Mukah Division
MUKAH: The diversity of Sarawak's arts and cultural heritage took centre stage at the Sarawak Cultural Night in conjunction with the Sarawakku Sayang (SKS) Programme for Mukah Division, held at Dataran Pehin Setia Raja here on Friday.
The Sarawak Cultural Night performances in conjunction with the Sarawakku Sayang Programme 2026 were also staged by local Sarawak cultural groups and associations, in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts Sarawak (MTCP) and the Sarawak Arts Council (MSS).
Among the local artists who took part were Mariani, Nizam, Sazia, Harris, Mukah Buskers, Karen Libau and Ricky Andrewson, who entertained the audience with music and vocal performances.
Sarawak's cultural diversity was also showcased through a Melanau dance by Sri Ritma Borneo Mukah, an Iban dance by the Mukah chapter of Sarakup Indu Dayak Sarawak (SIDS), and a Bidayuh dance by Warisan Permata Seni Politeknik Mukah.
In addition, the Medan Setia Raja Mukah Dragon and Lion Dance Club performed a lion dance, while the Sarawak Arts Council's dance artistes presented the Sarawakku Sayang Dance.
The highlight of the night was also enlivened by the energetic banter of emcees DJ Sonic and Ajerie Aku, who kept the atmosphere lively and entertained the crowd throughout the programme.
The finale featured a gendang bermukun performance by Kumpulan Gemersik Gendang Kampung Baru Daro, which showcased the uniqueness of the local community's traditional music.
The festivities reached a high when guests of honour and other dignitaries joined in a poco-poco dance to the song "Bekikis Bulu Betis", bringing the Sarawak Cultural Night to a lively close.
All performances that night were carried out under the supervision of the Sarawak Arts Council as part of efforts to showcase local artistes' talent and introduce the diversity of Sarawak's arts and culture to the public.
Also present were Igan Member of Parliament Ahmad Johnie Zawawi, Mukah Division Deputy Resident Badjuri Bidin, MSS Chief Executive Officer Dr Suffian Jalet and MTCP representative Dayang Morzanah Awang Hadi. -UKASnews
